Energy Healing
Ancient cultures well understood the energetic make-up of all living things. All ancient and indiginous cultures have accepted the presence of the lifeforce energy that supports physical existence. It has been called by different names in different cultures: chi, mana, ki, prana, et al,
but, all terms refer to the same phenonenon.
All things living in the physical plane have a lifeforce and therefore produce a subtle energy field. Sensing this energetic field is simple, enlightening and fun. Close your eyes, take a couple of deep calming breaths to quiet your otherwise noisy mind . Move your hand slowly over the long axis of a growing plant or flower. This works especially well in the spring or summertime, when plants are in a growth cycle. It is important to validate every sensation that your hand registers. The feeling may be a tingling,
a warmth or coolness, a density, a 'magnetic push or pull', etc. Once you are aware and recognize what you are sensing in your hand, pass it over the plant a few more times. Most likely, the feeling will register the same with each pass. Nature is a matrix of energy that is flowing all around us, though we are seldom aware of its presence.
The energetic model is the template of understanding that is used in energy healing in order to illustrate the foundational composition of life on this planet. Therefore, energy healing is the awareness and manipulation of energy in order to support physical health.
It has foundational tenets, two of which are
- Energetic imbalances and blockages are manifested in the body as illness, and
- Most illnesses have an emotional component or source, which can be resolved and released, during the energy work process.
The Hawaiian Kahuna tradition understands this energy as: 'Mana [lifeforce energy] can be increased through visualizing it as increasing, through specialized breathing exercises, eating certain foods, using songs and chants, and especially by consciously building up emotion.
...Emotion is the movement of mana (energy) in the body accompanied by a specific thought.'

On the more scientific end of the spectrum, the bio-energetic field, or aura, has been researched by Drs. Semyon and Valentina Kirlian, who in 1939 discovered what has been variously called electrography, electrophotography, and coronal discharge photography. More recently, Dr. Konstantin Korotkov, a Russian physicist, has developed a method called GDV (Gas Discharge Visualization) based on the Kirlian Effect. GDV instruments use glass electrodes to create a pulsed electrical field excitation (called "perturbation technique") to measure electro-photonic glow.
